I spent most of my life being told I had to hide my mental illnesses; that if people knew, I'd get kicked out of school/have no insurance/not be able to get a job.... but at the same time, they really affect how I see the world, so it's impossible for me to hide what I am. In recent years, I've decided to actually embrace the unique way I see things because of the schizoaffective, and in return it's actually helped me manage my symptoms/stress by giving me a positive outlet to focus on. I also hope that by being open with what I am, it can help others realize that having something like depression or schizoaffective disorder is nothing to be ashamed of.
